Car OK, mileage leaves something to be desired

I bought the car 3 weeks ago and basically like it, but I have only managed to get an average of 31.4 miles per gallon - and I am not a "leadfoot". I suspect the tiny 1.6 kW battery is responsible. The only way you are going to get the stated 38 mpg is if all of your driving is downhill. If it would have come anywhere near to the claimed 38 mpg, I would have given it 5 stars. - 5.0

I'm writing this review primarily to describe my experience with the gas mileage. I saw the reviews saying that the gas mileage claims didn't live up to reality; however, my experience has been that I get 45 MPG on my local roads using eco mode. I'm not sure why others have had a different experience. I can only speak to my own findings and wanted to let potential buyers know that I, for one, have not been disappointed by the gas mileage claims. In fact, I've been more than pleased with the overall quality of the car and have told others to test drive it when I know that they're looking for a new SUV. - 5.0
My wife average 35.5 on average

I drive it for longer trips and have averaged up to 45 all depends on conditions highway I average 35 not disappointed we love our crv
